When all you have to think about is a shoe.....

I am sitting at my desk knowing that I have a lot to do - things on my list with deadlines set by me. That's always how I start my day. There are pros and cons to this approach.

First - the pros. I get a lot done. I feel disciplined and goal driven. And I think, in the long run, I accomplish quite a bit.

But the cons are the killer. If I don't complete my list, I feel like I've wasted the day. If something comes up that is very obviously higher on the priority list, I still feel like I should be at my desk working. I sometimes miss the joy that comes with helping someone else or just walking with someone you love - because that list looms heavy in my thoughts.

So, today, I was thinking about my self-imposed list and giving myself that mental kick to begin. But I started flipping through photos on my phone - and I found this one.

It is my reminder that we need to pull back all the busy-ness in our lives and just think about what is important. In my granddaughter's world, all she has to think about is that shoe. In my world, all I need to think about is Jesus. And my granddaughter, of course. And her shoe.....
